Technology Standards

I found The Wesley School located in North Hollywood, CA. The school is a K-8 school and each grade has their own class page. I picked the kindergarten class page because I have a passion for younger kids. When I click on their class page, I am able find an abundance of information: teachers’ names, class room numbers, teachers’ email addresses, teachers’ blog information, and important dates to remember for the school year and their class. In addition, the page has a side panel that has help tabs like: goals for kindergarten, online resources, phonics, and special classes. The page also has pictures of every teacher and some pictures of the children in their classroom. I found this page to be user friendly and very resourceful for the public and parents of the students. It definitely can help let the parents know what is going on with their child and what they need to keep in mind throughout the school year. It also allows the parent to feel more comfortable with the teachers and gives them an easy way to reach out to them.

Until this course, I’ve only used Twitter to stalk celebrities and keep up with current events. After taking this class and becoming more involved with Twitter, I can how see it can be fun, yet resource tool for communicating with others. Due to this class however, I’ve focused my account on technology based education leaders such as MIT. It has allowed me to keep up to date with some of MITs philosophies and methods on how they are attempting to be innovative and yet successful with their education.
This definitely opened my eyes to the fact that while Twitter is mostly a tool used for people to goof around with each other, it can be a very effective tool to get your word out about your methods so that others can follow, or vice versa, where people can go to learn more about a topic that really inspires them professionally.
