I think there are many technology advancements that hold promise for education. For me, I believe that virtual reality, gesture-based multi-touch displays, and gamification are the three most valuable tech tools that teachers can use. I say this, due to the current native technology generation that already have a grasp and desire for technology. They have grown up with technology and knowing how to use it. Incorporating technology tools within the classroom will help them learn easier and build new technical skills for their future. With technology like virtual reality, the students can get to know what different time periods in history looked like or see inside of a famous cave or volcano. Or with gamification, they can learn while they play games, which make it feel less like work and more like fun. With gamification websites like Classcraft, Class Dojo, and Rezzly teachers are able to design educational games for their students. The students can build problem solving skills, while learning how to communicate and cooperate with others through games.
The Digital Divide affects the student success due to some students growing up using technology having an advantage over the students that didn’t have direct access to technology. The students that don’t readily have access to technical devices like: computers, cell phones, and tablets; or have the knowledge and skills of how to work with technology; versus the students that grow up with having access to numerous technologies and have the skills on how to use them. Unfortunately, not all students are fortunate enough to have their own computer or laptop; meaning they don’t have the knowledge from the daily usage of computer. The main cause for the digital divide is socioeconomic contrast between the students. A situation that I may experience within a classroom would be a student not knowing how to surf the internet or how to navigate between sites. This would mean that I would have to address the whole class equally and make sure that they all know the basics of how to use a certain technology before I implement it into my lesson plan. Or I would have to do some one-on-one teaching with the particular student on how to use that specific technology.
